Betterfly connects talented individuals directly with people who need their skills, empowering people to better themselves and others. The Betterfly community is comprised of people who believe in the power of "better" and are redefining the ways in which people find and connect with experts in any number of fields.

Betterfly came to us for direction on updating their existing design to further engage and serve their users. Our design team helped them rethink everything about their site from content and layout to strategies for products and custom profiles.

With a clear understanding of the Betterfly vision we created a fresh user interface, intuitive layout, and bright, modern visuals that would enhance the user experience.

The Meeting Board aims to make your town a more awesome place to live by facilitating communication and interaction in your community through an online town bulletin board. It is a local events and social networking website that connects you with everyone who lives in your community.

We worked with The Meeting Board team on everything from discovery and design to development and deployment. Our Design team kicked things off with a fresh, intuitive UI design; our development team used Ruby on Rails to create the main application and customized Solr to develop a powerful search feature with a geolocation component for the application.

Homezada's home management software is a complete solution to the dispersed files, incomplete records and scattered maintenance reports that plague homeowners everywhere.

With Homezada you can easily document all the possessions in your home, track the value of assets and household improvements, access an ongoing library of to-do maintenance items and maintain checklists of seasonal projects. The application will even remind you when it’s time to update air filters and schedule maintenance.

Homezada approached us to draft the wireframes, design the user flow and refine the user experience for their software. Our design team worked closely with Homezada’s existing internal Rails development team to deliver an engaging and intuitive user experience and to help stylize it with the Rails application.

DealPop was a stealth "neighborhood deals" project from WhitePages when they came to us to design and develop their deal-a-day e-commerce platform. We worked closely with their existing team to rapidly build an application in Ruby on Rails that would get their idea to market in just three short months.

In record time we helped them launch a web application that would bring great deals from the most popular places to eat, shop and have fun. We worked on every aspect from the initial design brainstorming, to system architecture, to front and backend development.

We continued to closely work with the DealPop team after the project launch, iterating based on site usage, feedback and clients business goals.

Collaborating with the DealPop team on such a critical project gave us the opportunity to deliver a stable and scalable Rails application in a remarkably short time span that would go on to receive national attention and direct interest from leading investors. DealPop was acquired by Tippr merely one year after their initial launch.

OmniAuth is a Ruby authentication framework aimed to abstract away the difficulties of working with various types of authentication providers. It is meant to be hooked up to just about any system, from social networks to enterprise systems to simple username and password authentication.

Michael Bleigh was inspired to create OmniAuth after working with various authentication solutions that made too many assumptions about how he wanted to handle authentication in his applications. Today, OmniAuth powers authentication for over 2000 applications on the web.

Socialspring is the new face of social enterprise software. It is a robust suite of tools, designed to meet the needs of today's businesses by offering powerful solutions for real-time communication, natural collaboration, knowledge base creation, crowdsourcing, file sharing and more.

Web-based consumer software has drastically changed what employees expect out of the tools they use at work, yet business software has not kept pace. With Socialspring, we have completely re-imagined how software can mimic real world interactions to improve task efficiency, information sharing and reduce day-to-day work frustrations to result in happier and more productive employees.

Socialspring has been developed with a unique focus on usability to address the shortcomings of current business software. Socialspring applications work individually, but also are deeply integrated with each other for a more powerful experience.

Logo_scalr

Scalr is an innovative service that automatically scales a website's server resources up and down as the site’s flow of traffic increases and decreases. This enables site owners to concentrate on building other parts of the business. Intridea developed Scalr’s marketing site as well as the product itself.

The hardest part in scaling a website is scaling the database. So as a website or application grows, Scalr will scale it automatically by provisioning database slaves, masters, and configuring data replication. To ensure no loss of data, Scalr backups data at regular intervals and uses Amazon EBS for database storage.

Scalr provides businesses with a high uptime, fault-tolerant website: it monitors servers for crashes, and replaces any that fail. Scalr has been featured on TechCrunch, Amazon Web Services Blog, and CNET.

Earth Aid, a leading energy software company, approached Intridea to architect an application that would help people track and lower their energy and consumption costs. It is the first service to bring carbon offset trading down to the consumer level.

This project required the design and development of a new web application intended for widespread use. With the goal of attaining a broad audience of residential households across the nation, Intridea delivered an engaging design to provide the highest measure of user experience. Predicting that Earth Aid would grow rapidly due to national attention, our software architects made sure they designed a system that would scale with Earth Aid's needs as their user base grew.

Earth Aid quickly attracted venture funding shortly after we helped them launch. Today, Earth Aid is a thriving business. In working with them we were able to play a part in enabling Americans to measure and lower their carbon footprints.

The Georgetown University / Washington Hospital Center Emergency Medicine Residency is a nationally recognized and top tier program with motivated staff and experienced physician faculty. When the program approached Intridea, their website did not reflect this. We started work right away to make sure their site shined proper light upon the talented medical professionals that train some of the most gifted young candidates in the field.

With the website redesign, Intridea ensured all pages of the website could be intuitively accessed by all users, whether aspiring young residents or the curious parents of future doctors. An embedded video tour, a schedule of rotations, and staff photos were also included to provide an intimate glimpse into life as a resident.

Imbue: A Module Configuration Pattern for Ruby

by Michael Bleigh on February 21, 2012

It's a very common practice in Ruby to use Module mixins to enhance the functionality of a class. In fact, one of the most powerful and useful features of the Ruby language is that it is so easy to do so. Great stuff all around. Another common pattern, however, is to want to provide some include-time configuration when the module is mixed in. Let's imagine I'm writing an extension for ActiveRecord that creates a slug based on some field. What I want in the end might be something that looks like this: Continue reading
